Trial: The Art of Overcoming Obstacles on Two Wheels
Trial is a discipline that combines precision, balance and exceptional bike handling, challenging riders to overcome obstacles without touching the ground with a foot or losing control of their bicycle.
Originating in Spain in the early 1970s, Trial quickly developed on the international stage before coming under the governance of the Union Cycliste Internationale in 1985.
Continuously evolving, the discipline is now practised in both urban environments and natural terrain, where riders showcase remarkable agility, creativity and technical skill.
Competition Format
Riders tackle a series of timed sections featuring natural and artificial obstacles, including rocks, walls and logs.
On each section, any foot placed on the ground or any prohibited contact with the bicycle results in penalty points. The final classification is determined by the total number of penalties accumulated throughout the course.
