Enduro: Speed, Endurance and the Mountains as Your Playground

Combining the endurance of Cross-country with the technical demands of Downhill, Enduro is one of the Mountain Bike disciplines featured at the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc.

Competitions take place on spectacular natural terrain, with riders tackling timed downhill stages connected by untimed liaison sections completed under their own power.

Two Formats at the 2027 UCI Enduro World Championships

  • Enduro: the original format of the discipline. Riders complete a series of timed sections, known as "special stages," with the overall winner determined by the lowest cumulative time across all stages.

  •  E-Enduro: the electric mountain bike (e-MTB) version of the discipline. In addition to the timed special stages, riders tackle timed technical climbs, known as "Power Stages." Tight time limits between stages also require riders to carefully manage their battery usage and electric assistance throughout the race.

Enduro & E-Enduro: From Motocross Tracks to Mountain Trails

Enduro originated in the 1980s, drawing inspiration from motorcycle enduro competitions and adopting their format of timed special stages. The discipline first flourished in Europe—particularly in the Alps—before gaining worldwide recognition.

E-Enduro emerged in the 2010s alongside the rise of electrically assisted mountain bikes, making the discipline more accessible while preserving its technical demands and competitive spirit.

Morillon – Grand Massif: A Spectacular and Demanding Setting
