BMX Racing: Speed, Spectacle and Adrenaline

BMX Racing is one of the most spectacular disciplines in cycling. On a track featuring rollers, jumps and banked turns, riders compete in timed races that are short, explosive and action-packed.

Key features:

  • Eight riders start each race simultaneously from a starting hill measuring 8 metres (UCI World Championships) or 5 metres (Challenge and Masters competitions);
  • A short, fast and technical track;
  • Two bicycle categories: Standard (20"), used across all categories, and Cruiser (24"), reserved for the Challenge categories;
  • An Olympic discipline since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Haute-Savoie 2027: Bringing Elite and Amateur Riders Together

A unique feature of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc is that the world's best BMX Racing athletes will compete alongside thousands of qualified amateur riders.

Alongside the six UCI World Championship categories (Junior, Under 23 and Elite, Men and Women), 46 Challenge categories (from 8 years old) and 2 Masters categories (from 30 years old) will also be part of the competition programme. A distinctive feature of BMX Racing, this format allows amateur riders to compete alongside the sport's highest level.

Competition Format

On a track of approximately 400 metres, eight riders start each race from the starting hill.

The competition begins with knockout rounds, contested over several stages. At the end of each race, the top four riders advance to the next round.

The event concludes with a single final race, bringing together the eight best riders from the qualifying rounds to compete for the world titles.
